BUDAPEST, Suara Muhammadiyah – The issue of energy transition, technological development, and environmental sustainability is a global concern that continues to be discussed in various international forums. In the midst of this issue, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) has once again shown its work at the world level through the active participation of its academics in the 15th International Conference on Public Organization (ICONPO) 2026 which took place at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary, on May 28-29, 2026.
In the international conference entitled “Bridging Technology, Green Energy, and Environmental Sustainability”, UMY delegates were honored as Key Panel Speakers. This position shows international recognition of UMY’s academic contributions in the fields of public governance, digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and health innovation.
“UMY’s participation in international forums such as ICONPO is not only about the presence of institutions on the global stage, but also part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s academic contribution in answering world challenges. Issues of technology, green energy, and sustainability require a cross-disciplinary and cross-border approach,” said UMY Government Science lecturer, Prof. Dr. Dyah Mutiarin, M.Si to UMY Public Relations on Friday (29/5) online.
He added that global collaboration is important to continue to be strengthened, especially in dealing with environmental and sustainable development issues that are now the concern of various countries. According to him, universities have a strategic position to present ideas and innovations that can be applied in real terms in society.
The UMY delegation who became the Key Panel Speakers were Prof. Dr. Dyah Mutiarin, M.Si., Prof. Eko Priyo Purnomo, S.IP., M.Si., M.Res., Ph.D., apt. RR. Sabtanti Harimurti, Ph.D., apt. Rima Erviana, Ph.D., and Dr. Aulia Nur Kasiwi, S.IP., M.IP. These names are officially listed in the 15th ICONPO Book of Program as the main speakers who attended the international conference.
The presence of UMY academics in the forum is considered not only to expand the university’s global academic network, but also to open up opportunities for research collaboration and public policy development with various international institutions. This involvement also strengthens UMY’s position as an Indonesian university that actively contributes to sustainability issues at the global level.
According to him, sustainability issues cannot be solved from just one sector or one country. Therefore, synergy is needed between academics, the government, practitioners, and the community to produce more inclusive and long-term oriented policies and innovations
The 15th ICONPO was organized by APSPA (Asia Pacific Society for Public Affairs) in collaboration with PCIM Hungary, PPI Hungary, and a number of other international academic institutions.
“This conference is a strategic space for academics, researchers, governments, and practitioners from various countries to exchange ideas, strengthen collaborative research, and formulate innovative solutions to global challenges in the fields of technology, green energy, and environmental sustainability,” added Prof. Arin.
Prof. Arin hopes that UMY’s participation in international forums can further expand the contribution of Indonesian academics in science diplomacy as well as strengthen the position of Indonesian universities in the development of sustainability-oriented global governance. (NF)
